Ferry Pass is the flexible option, and that flexibility is worth more than people realise when they are choosing.
What it offers
It is one of the few areas that reasonably serves all three civilian hospital campuses: Baptist on Brent Lane, Ascension Sacred Heart, and HCA Florida West.
That matters in two situations that come up constantly. One, you change employers during the time you own the house, which in healthcare is not unusual. Two, there are two of you and you work at different facilities. Most areas force a compromise there. This one mostly does not.
You also generally get more house and lot for the money than the close-in neighborhoods.
The trade-off
More suburban, less walkable, and further from downtown. If you wanted the version of Pensacola with a walkable street and a coffee shop at the end of it, this is not that.
The Davis Highway corridor is the practical constraint. Living geographically close does not protect you from it during busy periods, and healthcare shift times dodge some of the worst of it but not all. Drive it at your real hour.
What to check before you commit
Which side of the corridor you are on, because it changes the drive more than the mileage does. Flood zone determination. School zoning from the district. And the parking and walk-in time at whichever facility you are reporting to, since that is part of the commute nobody counts.
